A Desperate Housewife’s Guide to Gaming

I stumbled across a blog post on the “Real Women’s Guide to Technology” that pretty much embodies the stereotypical soccer mom turned DS owner. You know what I’m talking about. You’ve seen the commercial with Lisa Kudrow making kung pow chicken with her daughter and a handful of other ads with [insert famous woman here] giggling while poking at the touch screen.
In the case of blogger Lee Doyle, who does not yet have a DS (though it is on her wish list), she discovered games were not “a dumb waste of time” when she secretly started playing her husband’s Xbox 360. Congratulations Captain Obvious. Games are extremely varied, and for the most part, quite intellectually stimulating.
Am I against casual, female, or mommy gamers? Of course not! I’m female, and I’ve been gaming since before I stepped foot in kindergarten. Read more »
Post-Turkey Day, Post-Black Friday Post: I <3 Steam Sales

Sorry no posts since Halloween.
But we’re alive, and we’re at the close of the Thanksgiving weekend! So, Happy Post-Turkey Day!
I actually have been doing quite a bit of gaming over the weekend, and, thanks to Steam sales, I am a few games richer as well.
As you can tell by the pictures, I took a trip back in to Playstation Home. I haven’t really touched it in a long time, nor do I ever really feel the urge too, but I had yet to experience the features added during patch 3.1… aaaand it finally let me connect without timing out… so ya.
Once my avatar materialized in to the mall, I noticed the giant turkey monolith and abundance of virtual turkey’s gobbling about. So… of course! There had to be a turkey-themed mini-game! Much like the rest of the mini-games on Home, it wasn’t that interesting: chase a turkey, chase another turkey, chase a somewhat faster turkey. Not that cool, but I knew I had to win me a hideously deformed turkey suit… which hardly anyone was wearing, probably because it is just that ugly.
But the best part about this weekend, other than stuffing my face: Steam. They’ve been having a 5 day sale for select games (different crop each day), and I have to say it’s a nice way to pad your library. Of course, Steam has sales a lot anyway, but seeing a chunk-o-game for 50-75% off is awesome.
Check out my spoils after the jump. Read more »
