Preview: Dream Fight For Japan

It’s hard to believe it has been five months since we have seen any DREAM events, but the time has finally come. The Saitama Super Arena just outside of Tokyo will host Dream Fight For Japan, aka DREAM Japan GP – 2011 Bantamweight Japan Tournament, this very weekend.
The event is actually a charity event to help those affected by the recent earthquake, thus why it is not called Dream 17. Anyone who is deeply into Japanese MMA knows very well the fighters who will be this event, but stateside, there is no comparison to the UFC marketing machine to inform those who are not in the know how exciting many of these fights are. As such, this will be a little primer on what we should all be looking forward to.

I also like throws and take downs, but because its difficult and against the rules (for good reason) to slam someone on to their head or neck, its very rare that they end fights. If a take down does end a fight, it might be an arm, shoulder, or other injury that results – not knocking the fighter unconscious.
Thankfully Megumi Yabushita spent years doing Judo and was set up against novice Korean fighter Seong Kim – resulting in the following amazing knockout.
“Don’t Say Gay… Say Takei!”

Beloved actor and activist George Takei has released a response to a proposed Tennessee bill known as SB 49, or the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. SB 49, which is still under review by the Tennessee state Senate Judiciary Committee, would ban teachers from discussing, and we assume even acknowledging the existence of, homosexuality in the classroom until the high school level.
So while some want to “disappear” gays and pretend they don’t exist for grades K-8, George Takei has a suggestion: “Don’t say gay… say Takei!” He has launched It’s OK to be Takei and made an awesomely charming video (watch after the jump) to bring awareness. Read more »
