Posted in MMA by Lithobolos | Tags: Dream, Dynamite!!, K-1, MMA
Looks like there is more news on FielDS Dynamite!! 2009, the joint New Years Eve show between FEG and World Victory Road. I can’t wait to see Hideo fight again, and I’m really hoping Aoki will fight Kawajiri in his first title defense. Hell, I’m even excited about Minowaman getting owned by Sokoudjou.
Check out the official card so far after the jump. Read more »
Science: Fundamentalism on the Attack

It seems to me the whole debate between science and creationism is being characterized in this country by some as Christians against unjust oppressors. Well, hopefully this article from the Times Online, which talks about the increasing opposition of evolutionary theory from conservative Muslims, will set some people straight. The battle isn’t between science and faith. It’s between science and people who want to press their faith on others, no matter what faith that is.

Review: Star Trek
Posted in Movies, Reviews by Lithobolos | Tags: Movies, Reviews, Star Trek
I have never been made this upset by a movie remake, and that says a lot. At worst, I expected this movie to mess with the continuity of all the other films: make people meet when they shouldn’t, get dates wrong, have technology be too advanced or too futuristic etc. But what happened was even worse…
Star Trek, which has a sequel coming, has changed the way Star Trek movies are made by concentrating on action and special effects more than story, acting, suspense, drama, and politics. They have effectively killed or wounded the drama of deep space opera films for years, even decades, to come. By having an over the top pace, blatantly stealing from the other Star Trek films as if they are out of date, and by disregarding or plain messing up on straight forward rules about time travel and the laws of sci fi science, this movie has hurt all science fiction movies even more than Star Wars Episodes I-III. I will never again be able to watch a new true to form Star Trek movie because from now on they will be reduced to this macho over the top action flick junk. I had a hard time figuring out Kirk’s age in the film, but I am quite sure he was made captain before he made it out of Star Fleet Academy, which would mean he went from not even having a real rank to skipping 5 officer ranks in a few days.
“So if I join a 3 century old organization and I yell at people enough, I can make captain and run the whole show in a few days on machismo alone?!” Yes. Apparently you can. Read more »
Dream/Strikeforce Alliance

My very first post on this blog was a pregame analysis of what in my mind would have been the greatest heavyweight MMA fight of the post Pride FC generation. Sadly, Josh Barnett failed a steroid test for the third time in his career, all of which he disputes. I can’t help but feel that a person is more likely to win the lottery than have three false positives. I hate throwing Josh under the bus, but I feel like I, as a fan, have been.
But this article is not about Barnett, my disappointment, my attempt to hold off declarations of guilt, or even the death of Affliction and their affection with the devil of diverse MMA, the UFC. No, this article is about the new hope that has come from these seemingly dark times; the alliance between Dream and Strikeforce. Read more »
Fedor Emeilianenko vs. Josh Barnett
Posted in MMA by Lithobolos | Tags: Affliction, Fedor Emeilianenko, Josh Barnett, MMA, Sports

On my mind right now is the up and coming Affliction/WAMMA heavy weight championship fight between Fedor Emeilianenko and Josh Barnett. Now, this in my mind is the greatest possible fight over 205. These are the world’s best!
My dilemma is that I like both fighters, for what they do in and outside the ring. Fedor is a great ambassador for the sport, showing that you can be the baddest man on the planet without being a disrespectful muscle-head that caters to WWE fans. He’s a real mixed martial artist who has both amazing submissions and knockouts.
Josh similarly is a great fighter, not as great as Fedor in my humble opinion, but he is an even greater coach and all around cool guy. For example, the greatest female fighter pound for pound, Megumi Fujii, has been trained by him for years and anyone who’s cool enough to hang out with Mega-Megu, is cool in my book. Read more »
