Mark your calendars! It looks like come November 7th Fedor and Strikeforce will make their network TV debut on CBS. According to MMAJunkie.com, the deal was announced today, but it is yet to be determined where the event will be held and what other bouts will be on the official card alongside Fedor vs. Rogers.
The return to prime time network TV is pretty huge for MMA in general, and we can only hope that Strikeforce can capitalize on the opportunity and succeed where the EliteXC failed previously. Strikeforce has already had success with recent events broadcast on Showtime, and I hope they can keep the ball rolling. They’ve certainly been dealt a good hand with Fedor on board, so it’s not too surprising that they’re playing him out on a broader stage. I can’t wait to see what happens.
Brett Rogers is a big, heavy hitting, undefeated wild card. After seeing him knock out Andrei Arlovski, I have to admit I’m scared for Fedor. I gotta believe though! And no matter what, I just hope it’s a good fight for the fans and the sport… and that Fedor comes out on top and doesn’t get Kimbo’ed.
Speaking of Mr. Slice, the first episode of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 debuted last night on Spike, where he was the “surprise” ingredient of the heavyweight mix. Not surprisingly, he seems to have the largest target on his back, but we’ll see how things go. I’m not exactly excited for the “drama” or a fan of the reality TV format the show has, but it should be interesting to see how things go down with the range of heavyweights they have collected, which include former IFL heavyweight champion Roy “Big Country” Nelson, and three former NFL players.
Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson are pretty amusing to watch as they trash talk each other, although it’s looking like Rashad has made the better picks so far going for substance over size… and over Kimbo. The first fight was very boring but also very bloody as one of Team Rampage’s fighters continually got taken down/out wrestled and got his head cracked open with elbows… not pretty.
