Last night we attended the third Jackson’s MMA Series promotion held at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Albuquerque. It proved to be an exciting card with Jackson’s fighters going 9-1 with only 3 decisions over the course of the night. The only Jackson’s loss came during the main event when Johnny Bedford sank in an impressive rear-naked choke on WEC veteran Frank Gomez.
Full results after the jump.
Pro Card:
Johnny Bedford (17-9-1) defeats Frank Gomez (8-3)
Bedford controlled the fight early both on the feet and on the ground, reversed Gomez’ attempts to gain position and securing a slick rear-naked choke 1:34 in to round 1. We’re hoping to see Gomez come back and also more of Bedford, hopefully both in the UFC.
Julie Kedzie (15-8) defeats Sarah D’Alelio (4-1)
Kedzie displayed superior striking throughout the bought, winning by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) and handing D’Alelio her first loss. D’Alelio snuck in a threatening arm bar seconds from the end of round 1, but Kedzie was able to turn out and end the round. While D’Alelio was a tougher opponent than her last, Kedzie was clearly the stronger fighter, picking her shots to ride out the win. We hoped to see a finish, but it seems Kedzie wanted to play it safe.
Diego Brandao (12-7) defeats Richard Villa (6-4)
In what we saw as fight of the night, Brandao battled hard with Villa, finally securing a rear-naked choke 3:31 in to round 2. This fight was back and forth, both trading shots, and while Brandao continued to be able to take Villa down, Villa fought successfully to escape and get back to standing on multiple occasions.
Frank Lester (6-4) defeats Josh Lanier (2-4)
The fight started off slow, as both fighters seemed cautious and content in feeling each other out. The pace picked up somewhat in round 2, and Lester was able to connect with an overhand left, rocking Lanier. Lester quickly pounced with the ground and pound, finishing by TKO 2:32 in to round 2.
Clint Roberts (1-0) defeats Matt Madrid (2-3)
Clint Roberts made his pro debut a winning one, finishing via triangle choke 3:08 in to round 1.
Amateur Card:
Lionel Lanham (3-0) defeats Robert Rivera (6-3)
Lanham made quick work of Rivera, catching him with an overhand right and following with strikes on the ground, finishing by TKO just 33 seconds in to round 1.
Breagan Wood (2-0) defeats Freddie Crosby (3-2)
Wood looked lucid against Crosby’s crisp punches early on, attempting to throw Crosby off with his unorthodox spinning strikes. Wood continually tried to take the fight to the ground after eating some straight and overhand punches. Wood was successful in doing so, particularly in the later rounds where he was able to control, mount, and land elbows down on to Crosby. Wood took the fight via majority decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-28).
Tim Dennison (2-1) defeats Adam Soto (3-4)
Dennison secured the win with a rear-naked choke 2:40 in to round 1 after an unsuccessful mount escape by Soto.
Adam Gonzales (1-0) defeats Jose Caro (3-4)
Gonzales rinsed and repeated, continually taking Caro down and ground and pounding from Caro’s guard. Caro had no answer, and Gonzales took fight via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
Johann Perez (3-0) defeats Ray Orozco (1-4)
Orozco started out aggressive on the feet, but Perez was able to take him down and gain side mount. Orozco then attempted to escape side mount by pushing off the cage, but Perez was able to catch him in his guard and quickly swing in to an armbar 2:30 in to round 1. Our submission of the night.
